Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls…Welcome to your 2018 – 2019 Club Officials!
President – Cath Halstead
I have been a member of BGC for a number of years and people always expect you to know who they are and what they do – but the point being we don’t need to know, we are all friends and any strangers we have yet to meet, I look forward to it.On that point – I should introduce myself….
I have lived in Wray most of my life and having played golf at Bentham for a few decades now I have seen many changes in the Course, the Clubhouse and the Members in this time.
The significant points of my resume to keep it brief – I have served for 22 years with the TA and worked for Reebok for 15 years in various roles and now run my own business called Made In Wray. There is more about travelling the world for 12 months, being put under house arrest and have Interpol looking for me & working as a checkout chick but those and other stories are for another time and place….
Captain – Tom Beanlands
‘I’ve lived up in the dales for 1/2 of my 26 years on earth and I first joined Bentham Golf Club when I was about 15. I’ve been lucky enough to travel and see a lot of the world, I’ve also been lucky enough to play a lot of golf on a lot of nice courses and after 11 years since I first picked up a golf club I find myself cemented in the area, playing golf at Bentham, still enjoying the views whether it’s a bad round or a good round with no plans to be anywhere else. That says a lot about this area and what the people here have to offer.
This course means a lot to me and has changed a lot since I first joined, we should all be thankful for every round of golf we play and take full advantage of what we’ve been offered at this great club.’
Vice-Captain- Trevor Dobson
I first became a member of Bentham Golf Club in 1995 when my two sons joined the Junior Section. I very soon became a keen golfer and over the years have represented the club in the Rabbits and Dales leagues. Three years ago I took on the role of Handicap Secretary which is both enjoyable and challenging. However, it does give me the opportunity to get to know the members better.
As Vice-Captain this year, I am looking forward to supporting our President and Captain’s whilst hopefully enjoying another good year of golf.
Lady Captain – Margaret Hird
I have lived in Austwick all my life. I started playing at Bentham, a bit late in life when my friend Gill Fell was captain. She invited me a long, and with a lot of encouragement and patience, and a number of years later, (apart from 2 years when I couldn’t play) I am still here playing golf and enjoying the wonderful course we have, and the many club competitions we play.
Lady Vice-Captain – Jill Taylor
I have been a member of Bentham Golf Club for many years now, and have made lots of new friends and acquaintances. I was lucky enough to have been encouraged to learn to play by my husband and I have never looked back. I love the Ladies get togethers thanks to not only the competitions we play but the friendships we develop along the way. I have now retired; it used to be a case of juggling golf with work but now it’s juggling golf around grand children. It’s amazing how it can be done!
Seniors Team Leader – Michael Curwen
Having been a member of five other golf clubs I have to say that I’m enjoying Bentham Golf Club more than any other. I put this down to the warm welcome I received on my first visit as a prospective member, a feeling I feel that grows with every passing year. The Seniors section both formal with inter club competitions and informal on their daily “chuck ins” could not be bettered for social golf and competitiveness which together with all other aspects of golf club life makes this the obvious number one choice of golf clubs in this region. I am thoroughly looking forward to another competitive and social season with Bentham Seniors.
