Happy New Golfing Year to EVERYBODY…..

With the golfing season, and hopefully ample sunshine, around the corner, I would like to hope you are all looking forward to the forthcoming golf season and another year of competitions, matches and social events.

Course fees have increased ever so slightly again which is understandable given the investments being made. This still means you can get a round of golf for £1.35 (a 1p increase from 2017!) every day for a year.

As a Members Club we have once again held our Members Club Subs at £25 which gives you access to every Club Competition, your affiliation fees, an official CONGU handicap and of course your free diary.

I am once again looking forward to seeing EVERYBODY making the most of what is on offer and wish you all luck with the forthcoming season.  I wish Tom Beanlands and Margaret Hird good luck in their year as Captain & Lady Captain and hope you will all support them in their year of office.

Latest News & Plans for 2018

This year will see even more competitions added to the calendar plus a new inter-club competition and a couple of new social events!

You will notice that this year’s Members Club Diary, obtainable from the Pro Shop upon renewal of your Members Club Membership, does not have a list of members’ names and contact numbers this year. This is due to changes in the Data Protection Regulation which will come into force on 25th May 2018.

  1. Midweek Medal

On the last Wednesday of the Month will be an individual medal over 9 holes, which will count towards your handicap. This will be informal in the sense that there will be no set tee times as with other competitions. All we ask is that you book your tee time online (don’t just turn up) and sign in at the Pro Shop to collect a scorecard and pay your entry fee (£2 plus £1 for two’s).

  1. Saturday Stableford

The Saturday Scrambles have been changed to Saturday Stablefords and will take place once a month. These are an individual, 18-hole Stableford competition.

  1. Inter-Club Challenge with Kendal and Silverdale

At the time of writing, Isabel is in talks with Kendal and Silverdale to create a one-day inter-club tournament this summer. We are also looking to organise reciprocal green fee arrangements with both clubs. Watch this space for more information!

200 Club

The 200 Club continues in 2018 with 6 monthly prizes of £50 & a bumper Christmas draw in December of 3 x £100 prizes.  It’s £9 per month or £104 for the year, per ball to enter. The money goes directly into the Members Club and helps fund member’s activities and necessities. For more information please contact Judy Lovett, pick up a form in the clubhouse or visit the Members Section on our website, www.benthamgolfclub.co.uk/members-club/the-200-club/

What’s changing this year: Building, Branding and Development

The addition of the driving range in 2017 has been a huge success and popular with faces old and new. We hope to continue to build on this success and make the driving range more interactive with groups of all ages by bringing in some fun targets as well as serious ones to the range.

Wenningdale Escapes is evolving by the day with our hire lodges due to arrive in early March. We will have 3 hire lodges, sleeping 16 people between them. The remaining lodges will be privately owned and for holiday use only. Please don’t hesitate to ask Isabel for more information on the development or to explain anything. We will be having an Open Day once we have taken delivery of the lodges and sited our bespoke pods. Members and guests will all be welcome to attend to find out more about how Wenningdale Escapes will operate and to have a look inside the lodges.

We will be joined by two new members of staff from early February. Heather and Les Whyte are coming from sunny Scotland to take the role of Wardens for Wenningdale Escapes and will be responsible for a whole array of jobs on the course and around the lodges. They will be working Thursday to Monday and live on-site.

As we look forward to 2018, we very much hope the weather is kind to us and that we can develop even further as a course and business. We need to continue to develop our business and look to the future. We really hope that you will join us on this journey and trust us that Bentham Golf Club is a key part of this journey.

Club as a Hub

2 years ago North Yorkshire Sport approached us to take part in their pilot scheme ‘Club as a Hub’. The aim of this scheme was to help tackle isolation and loneliness in rural communities by making the club a social hub for people. Since then, Isabel has worked closely with organisations within the community to build up an idea of activities, events and sessions that we can run to help play a role within our community. Over the course of the year we will be starting session for various groups.

Get into Golf

We will once again be running a series of Get into Golf session through the summer so if you know anyone who has expressed an interest in playing, send them in our direction! The courses will start on Saturday 24th February and will cost £35 per person for a 5 week course. We will be running beginner and improver courses this year.

You may notice that the membership invoice has changed slightly, to include a request for consent to use your contact information through our email messaging systems (Mailchimp and BRS Golf tee booking systems). Please ensure that you return the bottom slip of your membership invoice with your payment to ensure we know whether you have given us your consent. Otherwise we will have to remove you from the system.
